American Management Association was established in New York in 1923 with the mission to help individuals and organizations enhance managerial effectiveness.
A brief history of AMA
- In 1936, the first AMA Conference was held; its extensive influence later gathered speakers such as Dwight Eisenhower, Richard Nixon, Colin Powell, Margaret Thatcher, and Robert Reich.
- In 1948, AMA launched its first seminar.
- In 1949, its first workshop. The novel way of training was then widely adopted to become today’s norm.
- In 1953, AMA introduced the 4-week Management Course, which became the then most influential management program.
- In 1955, AMA published its first magazine Management Review (today’s M-World); it later published important articles of Abraham Maslow, Peter Drucker, Tom Peters, etc.
- In 1960, AMA established its publishing division – AMACOM, the world’s leading publishers of management, business and personal development titles.
- In 1961, Management Center Europe (MCE) was established in Brussels.
- In 1966, the Mexico center was installed in Mexico City.
- In 1974, Canadian Management Center (CMC) was opened in Toronto.
- In 1993 AMA Japan was set up in Tokyo, which marks AMA’ global presence.
- In 1996 AMA China was established in Shanghai.
Today, AMA has training centers in China , South Korea , Malaysia , Philippines , Singapore , Thailand , Australia , Turkey , the United Arab Emirates and Egypt . Each year, more than 100,000 people worldwide attend AMA seminars. Over 25,000 individuals and 3,000 organizations in 89 countries are members of AMA. Monthly e-newsletters go out to 80,000 members and customers.
