Business Sense Has a good commercial and financial understanding; demonstrates a strong sense of ownership; drives cost control and profit improvement; has a holistic view of cross-functional cooperation; scans the market continuously, and applies a strategic perspective to local markets.
A manager who lacks this competence:
· Lacks the big picture of running a business;
· looks only within one's function;
· lacks insight of the market and the competition.

Strategic Insight Keeps updated on the competitive situation and industry trends; gets first-hand customer information and uses it for improvement of products and services; identifies and initiates needed change; keeps focused on developing the company's core competence; maintains a good balance between short and long term targets.
A manager who lacks this competence:
· Lacks understanding of the company, its products or operating environment;
· lacks clear goals and priorities;
· makes decisions in isolation, without regard for future changes; lacks a good appreciation of the manager' s role in the decision making process.

Thinking & Innovation Applies system thinking to solve complex problems; has clear logic and tools to solve problems quickly; promotes out-of-the-box thinking when dealing with solutions to difficult problems; challenges “the way it has always been done” and continuously seeks innovation; promotes challenges and debate in the team to synergize the team process.
A manager who lacks this competence:
· Becomes overloaded with information, is unable to identify key issues quickly;
· has difficulty dealing with complex, ambiguous or non-routine problems;
· is risk averse and relies too much on tried-and-tested approaches;
· lacks innovative ideas;
· is ineffective in leading team for problem solving, decision making and creative activities.
